The Teaching and Research Section of Military Affairs was founded in 1985. It is one of 11 tryout higher educational institutions for military training.

The Section now has 5 full-time teachers and offering a general compulsory course "Military Theory" and a general elective "Modern War and National Defense Technology", undertaking the teaching task of more than 6,000 undergraduates every year at Zhejiang University. The Section has been awarded “Excellent Institutions for Students’ Military Training” by Ministry of Education. Additionally, in 2000, the Section won the first and second prizes of Research Paper on Military Theory by Ministry of Education. The Section has been granted the membership of Guidance Commission of Military Theory Teaching for Higher Educational Institutions.
