Global University Network for Innovation: Asia and the Pacific (GUNI-AP) was founded in Hangzhou, China in September 2002 by UNESCO Asia and Pacific Regional Bureau for Education, United Nations University (UNU), the Global University Network for Innovation (GUNI), the Chinese National Commission for UNESCO, Zhejiang University, in collaboration with 8 top universities from 7 countries.

GUNI-AP has organized a series of international conferences in Hangzhou, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok and Seoul during the past several years, as well as attended the “Board Meeting of GUNI” and the annual “Barcelona International Higher Education Conference” held in Spain. In order to make GUNI-AP a Laboratory of Ideas of Innovations in Higher Education, GUNI-AP has launched projects among the member institutions, such as “Trace Study on Research Universities in Transition towards Knowledge based Society” and “Research Evaluation and Capacity Building in Universities”. GUNI-AP also has translated and published the annual report Higher Education in the World edited by GUNI.

GUNI-AP is chaired by the President of Zhejiang University. The Secretariat of GUNI-AP is located at Zhejiang University. The Coordinator of the Secretariat is Prof. KAN Yue.
